Prof Zhixian Cao

Professor Zhixian Cao obtained a BSc degree in river sedimentation and PhD in river dynamics from Wuhan University. He has held academic posts at Wuhan University and Tianjin University in China and was visiting professor at Ritsumeikan University, Japan. He has taught mechanics of sediment transport and engineering fluid mechanics for undergraduates and advances in river dynamics for postgraduate students.
He has been responsible for a range of research projects funded by Natural Science Foundation of China, Ministry of Science and Technology of China (under the 973 program), Ministry of Education of China, EU 6th Framework Program and water resources industry, mostly on fluvial hydraulics, sediment transport and flood risk management (e.g., dam-break flooding and heavy rainfall-induced flash flooding). He was awarded Telford Prize 2003 by Institution of Civil Engineers, UK.
