Prof T Malcolm Chrisp

Malcolm Chrisp is Director of Teaching & Learning in the School of the Built Environment. He is a civil engineering graduate and has studied at Newcastle University and Bristol University. Upon graduation in 1984, he worked with Mott MacDonald Group as a design engineer working on a range of major design projects including Severn Suspension Bridge and Channel Tunnel. In 1991, he joined Heriot-Watt University as a Lecturer and was subsequently promoted to Professorial Fellow in the School of the Built Environment. He is a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (MICE).
His research and consultancy interests are in structural materials testing and performance. He has held grants in materials development with Transport Scotland and EPSRC. He has also worked developing timber building designs that allow rural communities to resources their own self-resourced developments.
