Resham Dhariwal obtained his PhD from Aston University in Birmingham in 1976 and then worked for Birmingham University for 2 years. He joined the department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Heriot Watt in 1978 when it was based in the city centre. Since that time he has undertaken a variety of administrative duties such as laboratory administrator for year 1 and year supervisor for year 2. He has also acted in the capacity of programme director for various masters programmes and most recently as the overall programme director for all UG and PG programmes and chair person for all exam boards. He has taught courses throughout the degree programmes and also at MSc level. Since 2012 he is now the Deputy Head of EECE and programme director for the Erasmus Mundus funded International master in Smart Systems Integration. His research interests are in the area of electrical breakdown at very small separations and microfluidic systems. He has over 60 journal and conference publications and has been PI for grants with a value of about 4 million pounds and CI for another 2.5 million pounds of funding.
