ERPE Professor Mercedes M. Maroto-Valer BSc, PhD, FRSC, FRSE, FIChemE and Robert M Buchan Chair in Sustainable Engineering, Head of Institute of Mechanical, Process and Energy Engineering (IMPEE) and Director of Energy Academy, has given a talk at the prestigious London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF).

The Journal of Petroleum Technology (JPT) July 2015 issue includes a technology focus feature on reservoir simulation which discusses four recent papers published by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). Two of the four articles are based on recent research output from the Edinburgh Research Partnership in Engineering (ERPE). JPT is disseminated to over 100,000 SPE members.

Heriot-Watt University has been awarded one of six research grants from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and the Medical Research Council (MRC) in partnership with a consortium of 14 leading food and drink companies.

The NERC Centre for Doctoral Training (NERC CDT) took its message of collaborative research and training between academia, industry and regulators to its first international meeting by exhibiting at the 77th EAGE Conference & Exhibition held in Madrid, 1st-4th June 2015.

A delegation led by Professor Tariq Durrani, Vice-President (International) of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and WANG Jie, Vice-President of Peking University visited Heriot-Watt’s Edinburgh Campus to see some of the University’s research projects on Thursday 18 June.

A glass lattice that traps light in such a way that it exhibits ‘infinite mass’ has been devised by a group of physicists within ERPE and Heriot-Watt University.

After months of hard work from pupils and engineers alike, the ‘Small- Plumbing’ project, led by ERPE, came to an end with an illustrious awards ceremony at the Royal Society of Edinburgh. All the attendees enjoyed an inspirational talk from Lucy Ackland, winner of the 2014 Women’s Engineering Society Prize.

The latest findings from an ongoing project into community renewable energy will be presented at a conference in Findhorn near Inverness next week on 4 and 5 June 2015.
