Heriot-Watt School of the Built Environment welcomes first PhD student in Dubai Campus

Yara Hamdan is the first PhD student to enrol in the School of the Built Environment PhD programme at the Dubai Campus, starting on 1 June this year.

With an MBA, BEng (Hons) and 12 years industry experience as an Engineering Management Consultant, Yara’s chosen PhD topic is the integration among strategic management and project management in the engineering and construction sector. The research combines both theoretical and practical data, where real data from onsite projects and organisations will be collected, analysed and integrated using various methodologies in engineering management.

Yara said: “I am always passionate about knowing more and creating new material, and the idea of pursuing a PhD has always been there for me… so when a high ranked, accredited University like Heriot-Watt launched a full time PhD programme at their Dubai Campus, I was the first one to register."
