Success for ERPE Built Environment students

Students from Heriot-Watt’s School of the Built Environment were part of the winning team at the 2014 Designing Places competition which took place on Saturday 15 March at the Lighthouse in Glasgow.

Design competition
The annual competition, hosted by the Scottish Government, included architecture, landscape architecture, urban design and planning students from across Scotland. This year the one-day live masterplanning class focused on a local town centre and its high street. Each of the five participating teams dealt with regeneration and green infrastructure in their designs for the site. The judges were impressed with the students’ dedication, team effort and the outstanding work produced.

A winning team
The winning team consisted of Heriot-Watt’s Kathy O’Reilly (4th year Urban Planning & Property Development) and Sharon Masocha (3rd year Urban Planning & Property Development) along with students from Dundee, Strathclyde and Edinburgh. Kathy said, “The competition was a great opportunity to network with both public and private sector planning and property professionals. Learning about urban design and team work under pressure will definitely help with my design-focused coursework.”
